Jimmy Richard, drill master, 2nd Battalion received the Commandant of the Marine Corps Drill Instructor of the year award for 2011 and serves side-by-side at Marine Corps Recruit Depot San Diego with Sgt. Maj. Peter Siaw, sergeant major, 2nd Bn., Sgt. Maj. Edward Gonzalez, sergeant major, 3rd battalion and Staff Sgt. Michael Saldana, drill master, 1st Bn., who are all past receipients of the award. Drill instructors from Marine Corps Recruit Depot San Diego has won the award three consecutive years.
