John Ray, of Durant, Okla., and a forward observer with B Troop, 1st Squadron, 180th Cavalry Regiment, writes down the information he needs to call in a nine-line close-air support request to a U.S. Navy F/A-18 Super Hornet flying overhead. Ray, with other FOs from his unit, has been calling in CAS missions at Udairi Range near Camp Buehring, Kuwait, where his unit is deployed in support of Operation New Dawn.
