Maj. Okezie C. Igboeli, Evans Army Community Hospital ophthalmologist, folds back the cornea, the protective layer above the eye’s lens, of Sgt. Samuel Leon Rodriguez, 52nd Brigade Engineer Battalion, 2nd Infantry Brigade Combat Team, 4th Infantry Division, during his Lasik eye surgery on Jan. 24, 2019. Evans ACH recently renovated the War-Fighter Refractive Eye Surgery Program’s surgical suite to include an Alcon Wavelight EX-500 Excimer laser system, one of the newest refractive eye surgery laser systems. The system reduces the amount of time a patient spends in the suite and staff members’ time updating patient medical records. Leon Rodriguez was among the first Soldiers to have their surgeries complete using the new laser system.
