190206-M-YD783-0012 ARABIAN SEA (Feb. 4, 2019) Female Engagement Team Marines with the 22nd Marine Expeditionary Unit pose atop an M1A1 Abrams Main Battle Tank turret after completing Female Engagement Team training in the well deck of the Wasp-class amphibious assault ship the USS Kearsarge (LHD-3). FET Marines act as advisers and liasons in foreign countries and help to train their troops basic combat skills. Marines and Sailors with the 22nd MEU and Kearsarge Amphibious Ready Group are deployed to the 5th Fleet area of operations in support of naval operations to ensure maritime stability and security in the Central Region, connecting the Mediterranean and the Pacific through the western Indian Ocean and three strategic choke points.
