New Jersey National Guard Soldiers and Airmen listen to Dr. Connie Goddard give a presentation on the Manual Training and Industrial School, located in Bordentown, N.J., during the New Jersey National Guard’s Black History Month celebration at the Joint Military and Family Assistance Center in Bordentown, Feb. 14, 2019. This year’s observance included presentations by Goddard and John Medley on the all black school, often referred to as the Tuskegee of the North, which was founded in 1886 and closed in 1955. It became a National Historic Landmark on Jan. 5, 1998. Black History Month recognizes the heritage and achievements of African Americans in both the military and in society.
