Airmen from the 177th Security Forces Squadron assigned to the Homeland Response Force underwent hazardous materials and operations training at the 177th Fighter Wing, New Jersey Air National Guard, located in Egg Harbor Township, N.J., on Jan. 21-22, 2012. There are 10 HRF units, one for each FEMA region, with the 177th and the 108th Wing Security Forces being part of the New Jersey/New York HRF. HRF units are trained to respond to a chemical, radiological, biological, nuclear and explosive or hazardous events within 12 hours. These Citizen-airmen are trained and equipped to integrate into the National Incident Management System to plan and conduct command and control, logistics support, casualty search and extraction, medical triage and treatment, ambulatory and non-ambulatory decontamination. This joint force is available to local, state or the combatant commands to operate across the spectrum of military operations, from major combat and stability operations overseas to strategic deterrence, homeland defense and support to homeland security missions.
