Soldiers in the 178th Engineer Company, 1st Maneuver Enhancement Brigade, are isolated in a simulated decontamination point during field exercise training from Dec. 5 to Dec. 9 in Fort Polk, La., at the Combined Arms Collective Training Facility. This scenario depicts a radiation decontamination shower. The 178th and other elements of 1st MEB are currently assigned in support of the Joint Task Force Civil Support, Defense Chemical Biological Radiological and Nuclear Response Force. The DCRF is a total force of about 5,400 personnel consisting of primarily Army with augmentation from other services and civilians from active-duty, National Guard and reserve units, who deploy as the Department of Defense’s initial response force for a CBRNE incident.
