SAN DIEGO (March 15, 2019) — Command Master Chief Neal Olds presents Capt. David Oden -- the outgoing commanding officer of the amphibious assault ship USS Makin Island (LHD 8) -- a gift from the ship's Chiefs Mess, including his commissioning pennant, and a photo of the Chiefs Mess during a change of command ceremony. During the ceremony, Capt. Christopher Westphal relieved Capt. David Oden as the commanding officer. Makin Island, homeported in San Diego, is conducting a depot-level maintenance availability.
