SAN DIEGO (March 15, 2019) — Rear Adm. Cedric Pringle, commander, Expeditionary Strike Group 3, presents Capt. David Oden, the outgoing commanding officer of the amphibious assault ship USS Makin Island (LHD 8), the Legion of Merit during a change of command ceremony held in the ship’s well deck. During the ceremony, Capt. Christopher Westphal relieved Capt. David Oden as the commanding officer. Makin Island, homeported in San Diego, is conducting a depot-level maintenance availability.
