"We did dust-off operations with the 82nd and SAR; Search and Rescue. Got shot out of three helicopters. My dad served in the Army Airborne during the second World War and flew B-26 bombers. I re-enact in memory of him and the greatest generation. When I came back from 'Nam - and we have a saying, 'no one ever leaves 'Nam' - we weren't well accepted. When we went to find jobs, the VA rep would say 'don't tell anyone you're a Vietnam vet'. I went to one interview and put down I was a Vietnam vet and the guy across the desk looking at me says 'Oh I see you're a Vietnam vet. Well we don't hire baby killers here'.
I've been doing living history for many years, and it's been like mental therapy for me. I do this also trying to keep the memory alive of the people that sacrificed so much going through The Great Depression and then going into war. They paid a hellacious price for what we have now."
-Dan Jackson, Airborne Medic U.S. Army veteran
