USS Gerald R. Ford (CVN 78)

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. (March 28, 2019) Two 8-ton Dahlgren guns and their carriages were recovered intact from the wreckage of USS Monitor and are housed at The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration's (NOAA) Monitor National Marine Sanctuary at the Mariners' Museum and Park. The Monitor, which sank off the coast of North Carolina in 1862, is scheduled to have its turret mounted on a new support structure by Huntington Ingalls Industries-Newport News Shipbuilding, a milestone in the ships conservation process.
