Capt. George McArthur, the Communications Strategy and Operations officer-in-charge with the 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit, plays the Geat Highland Bagpipes to rouse motivational spirit toward the end of a 10 kilometer hike at Camp Hansen, Okinawa, Japan, March 29, 2019. More than 200 Marines and Sailors with the 31st MEU Command Element flew to a landing zone roughly 6 miles from the unit command post, marching back with full packs, protective vests and helmets to build morale and camaraderie after returning recently from a patrol of the Indo-Pacific region. The 31st MEU, the Marine Corps’ only continuously forward-deployed MEU, provides a flexible and lethal force ready to perform a variety of military operations as the premier crisis response force in the Indo-Pacific region.
