Sgt. Matthew J. Medzis, a counter improvised explosive device instructor with Combat Assault Battalion for Exercise Cobra Gold 2012, gives a class on how to spot IEDS and how to properly use the metal detecting equipment. Medzis, a 24-year-old Richfield, Minn., native experienced IEDs in Iraq and Afghanistan as a combat engineer and knows proven tactics that helps counter the damage done by them. Exercise Cobra Gold is a recurring multinational and multiservice exercise co-hosted by the Kingdom of Thailand and the U.S. designed to advance regional security by training as a multinational force from nations sharing common goals and security commitments in the Asia-Pacific region.
