NEWPORT NEWS, Va. (March 26, 2019) – A simulated class alpha fire burns during a drill aboard the Nimitz-class aircraft carrier USS George Washington (CVN 73). Sailors assigned to George Washington participated in the drill in conjunction with the Newport News Shipyard fire department. George Washington is undergoing refueling complex overhaul (RCOH) at Newport News Shipyard. RCOH is a four-year project performed once during an aircraft carriers life-cycle that includes refueling of the ship's two nuclear reactors, repairs, upgrades and modernization.
