George’s Island, Mass. – The Massachusetts National Guard conducts a briefing for an assortment of partner agencies at the federal, state and municipal level responding to an improvised bomb on historic George’s Island in the Boston Harbor on Nov. 5, 2018 as part of a training exercise. George’s Island is home to a military fortification dating back nearly two centuries. It is now a tourist destination, but in this training event a domestic terrorist left a bomb there which the Massachusetts National Guard, FBI, State Police, Boston Police, Coast Guard and Boston Fire Department must neutralize. “Each agency brings a different set of skills and different set of tools to the fight,” said U.S. Army Lt. Col. Jeffrey Winn, Commander of the Massachusetts National Guard’s Civil Support Team – a unit of fulltime airmen and soldiers trained to neutralize weapons of mass destruction.
