Barlow, a native of Kansas City, Missouri, graduated from Lee Summit West High School in May 2017, before enlisting in December later that year. Barlow wanted to enlist to continue his family’s legacy of military service but wanted a challenge, so he decided to join the Marine Corps instead of the Navy like most of his family.
