After receiving the Army Commendation Medal with "V" device for valor during a ceremony at a Baqubah patrol base Aug. 4, 1st Lt. Shannon Meehan, Company D, 1-12th Combined Arms Battalion, 3rd Brigade Combat Team, 1st Cavalry Division, smiles as he talks to Col. David W. Sutherland, 3rd Brigade Combat Team, 1 Cavalry Division commander. Meehan was recognized for heroism and steadfast leadership while under fire during an operation Dec. 14, saving multiple lives of his Iraqi army counterparts and defeating the terrorist group targeting his forces.
