CAMP ARIFJAN, Kuwait – Army Spc. Darth Wagner, a human resources specialist with U.S. Army Central, watches as grader, Sgt. 1st Class Al Gagow, 1st Theater Sustainment Command, weighs his ruck sack during the ruck march event of the German Armed Forces Badge (GAFB) for Military Proficiency on April 11, 2019, at Camp Arifjan, Kuwait. During this part of the event, participants ruck march with a ruck sack weighing at least 33 pounds, not including food or water. Participants, preassigned a maximum distance based on prior performance, may earn gold for completing 12 kilometers within 120 minutes, silver for 9 kilometers within 90 minutes or bronze for 6 kilometers with 60 minutes. U.S. Army Central hosts events such as the GAFB to enhance service members’ personal abilities to stay combat ready which improves overall capabilities.
