Deputy Secretary of Defense Dr. Ashton B. Carter shares a laugh with Staff Sgt. Gregory G. Edwards, a native of Chicago and a cannon crewmember during his visit to the 3rd Brigade Combat Team, 1st Armored Division to take advantage of the hindsight on fielded equipment, training events, and cultural training that has helped the brigade during its deployment. Edwards showed Carter several improved capabilities of the M777 during his last visit to the brigade six months earlier in August 2011, as the unit was preparing for its deployment to Afghanistan.
