Friends and family gather at the newly renamed Group Support Battalion Headquarters building on Eglin Air Force Base, FL, April 25, 2019. On February 13, 2006, U.S. Army Sgt. Alberto D. Montrond, a Quartermaster, high mobility multipurpose wheeled vehicle mechanic, chemical equipment repairer and Special Forces Support Soldier assigned to GSB, was killed when an improvised explosive device was detonated near his Humvee, north of Deh Rawood in Central Afghanistan. Request for the approval of the memorialization of the-now 'Montrond Hall' was first submitted in 2015. After four years of resolve, the plan manifested through the hard work of GSB's senior leaders with the goal of helping to preserve Montrond's memory forever within the walls of the battalion with which he served.
