190506-M-YD783-1052 PERSIAN GULF (MAY 6, 2019) Petty Officer 1st Class Katy Jones, left, a Navy Corpsman with the 22nd Marine Expeditionary Unit receives a Fleet Marine Force pin during an awards ceremony in the hangar bay of the Wasp-class amphibious assault ship USS Kearsarge (LHD-3). Sailors attached to the 22nd MEU were awarded for demonstrating skill at their job and knowledge of Marine Corps customs and procedures during the ceremony. Marines and Sailors with the 22nd MEU and Kearsarge Amphibious Ready Group are deployed to the 5th Fleet area of operations in support of naval operations to ensure maritime stability and security in the Central Region, connecting the Mediterranean and the Pacific through the western Indian Ocean and three strategic choke points.
