Petty Officer 3rd Class Mason Treherne checks vitals for Cmdr. Edward A. Reedy during platelet apheresis at the U.S. Pacific Command Armed Services Blood Bank Center at the U.S. Naval Hospital Okinawa here Feb. 28. Donating platelets is very beneficial because they are crucial to saving lives by clotting blood. Treherne is a hospital corpsman for the center and Reedy, the center’s first donor, is the director of clinical support services and staff pathologist for U.S. Naval Hospital Okinawa.
