Naval Medical Center Camp Lejeune's Diversity Committee hosted a Holocaust Remembrance Ceremony April 29, 2019, in recognition of the Days of Remembrance. Special guest Dr. Karen Auerbach, professor of history at UNC Chapel Hill, discussed her many books, which focus on survivors' recounts of the events. Auerbach shared how many survivors, "say our language alone cannot begin to approach the true severity of this event." The Days of Remembrance serves as a means to begin to," tackle the idea of how the Holocaust was incomprehensible," Auerbach explained.
