Heart of Dixie Railroad Museum volunteer Ken Hoffman, facilitates the switching of the caboose to the diesel engine, known as a EMD SW-8 diesel switcher. The diesel locomotive was built in LaGrange, Ill., by General Motors Electromotive Division in 1951, for serving the U.S. Army in the Korean War. The engine has 800- horsepower and can switch direction without having to turn around.
