Mark Alessia of Sherman, Illinois, symbolically relinquishing command during the Illinois Army National Guard's 1st Battalion, 178th Infantry Regiment Change of Command Ceremony on Sunday, May 12, 2019, at the Illinois Army National Guard's Marseilles Training Area in Marseilles, Illinois. Ware relinquished command of the battalion to Lt. Col. Matt Garrison during the ceremony. About 400 Soldiers of the Chicago-based 1-178th Infantry Battalion are scheduled to deploy to Afghanistan later this summer.
