CALLAWAY, Maryland (May 14, 2019) - James Guy, president, Commissioners of St. Mary's County, reads the award citation for Patrolman First Class Emelie Thomas, NAS Patuxent River Police Department. Thomas, a nine-year veteran of the Pax River Police Department, was recognized as NAS Patuxent River’s Officer of the Year at the Law Enforcement Appreciation Day luncheon and ceremony May 14 in Callaway, Maryland. Ten police officers from various agencies received citations from the Office of the Governor as well as recognition from the Maryland Senate and House of Delegates, Commissioners of St. Mary’s County, St. Mary’s County Department of Aging and Human Services, and Triad/Seniors and Law Enforcement Together. Thomas was cited by her superiors as being a "go-to" officer consistently relied upon to assist her colleagues or serve as a subject matter expert to support mission accomplishment, most recently assisting field training officers with their recruits in the area of traffic stops and issuing citations.
