Senior military and civilian officials from the government of Guyana and the United States walk together prior to a senior leader's meeting, March 7, on Camp Stephenson, 25 miles outside of Georgetown. Senior leaders in attendance included Clemente Rohee, Guyana's Minister of Home Affairs, U.S. Ambassador to Guyana, Dr. D. Brent Hardt, Guyana Defense Force Chief of Staff, Commodore Gary Best, Guyana Col. Bruce Lovell, Chief of Operations for the GDF, U.S. Air Force Col. John E. Poast and U.S. Army Col. Shannon L. Boehm, senior military leaders assigned to U.S. Special Operations Command South. During the meeting, the gentlemen discussed key topics and military training currently being conducted as part of Exercise Fused Response 2012. The exercise is a joint Guyana - U.S. military exchange involving approximately 200 members of the Guyana Defense Force and 300 members of the U.S. military. The exercise is aimed at improving interoperability and increasing the capacity among the participating forces.
