Secretary of Defense Leon E. Panetta, discusses operations with Col. John Shafer, commanding officer with Regimental Combat Team 6, during his visit to Afghanistan, March 14, 2012. Panetta addressed the 31st Georgian Light Infantry Battalion, thanking them for their service and reading a letter from Lt. Col. Alexander Tugushi, the former commanding officer of the 31st Georgian LIB. The Georgians will increase their personnel in the fall, adding a second battalion to the base.
