Rear Admiral Roy Kelley, Commander, Naval Air Forces Atlantic, speaks at Strike Fighter Squadron (VFA) 101 Grim Reapers' deactivation ceremony onboard Eglin Air Force Base. The squadron was deactivated after more than seven years of service as the F-35C Lightning II Fleet Replacement Squadron (FRS) and played an integral role in jump-starting the U.S. Navy’s F-35C program when it first arrived at Eglin AFB in 2012. VFA-101's assets will be consolidated at Naval Air Station Lemoore, enabling the U.S. Navy to better support Fleet Replacement Squadron (FRS) production, operational fleet transitions for both U.S Navy and Marine Corps squadrons, Initial Operation Test & Evaluation (IOT&E) and Naval Aviation Warfare Development Command (NAWDC) requirements.
