190604-N-YG104-004 NORMANDY, France (June 04, 2019) D-Day reenactors stage field tents and vehicles outside Sainte-Marie-du-Mont. On June 6, 1944 American Paratroopers were dropped in over occupied Normandy after coastal bombardment by Allies. Thick fog and heavy fire from coastal guns left paratroopers in unknown territory. After a great battle, Saint-Marie-du-Mont was the first community to be liberated on D-Day. This week commemorates the 75th anniversary of D-Day.
