190604-N-YG104-008 NORMANDY, France (June 04, 2019) On June 6, 1944 American Paratroopers were dropped near Saint-Marie-du-Mont, an area occupied by German soldiers. Thick fog and heavy fire from coastal guns left paratroopers in unknown territory. After a great battle, Saint-Marie-du-Mont was the first community to be liberated on D-Day.
