Petty Officer 2nd Class T. A. Keith, a gas turbine system technician (mechanical) from Round Rock, Texas, instructs Seaman Travis Carter, from Rolla, Mo., on the proper stance when firing a 9 mm pistol at Recruit Training Command's indoor range facility at Naval Station Great Lakes, Ill., on Aug. 14. Carter, the Recruit Chief Petty Officer for Division 253, is one of several candidates recruited for special warfare operator ratings. Division 253 is the third all Special Warfare Operations divisions to go through recruit training. The division is made up of rating candidates for special warfare operator, special warfare boat operator, Navy diver and explosive ordnance disposal (EOD). It is part of a new Navy and Special Warfare Command initiative to grow the ranks of SEALs, littoral and riverboat squadrons, dive units and EOD detachments.
