Recruits from Division 253 place Navy ball caps on their heads during a capping ceremony after ending training for Battle Stations 21 on board USS Trayer (BST 21) at Recruit Training Command, Naval Station Great Lakes, Ill., Aug. 14. Battle Stations 21 is a grueling 12-hour test, held entirely aboard Trayer, of a recruit's skills in several shipboard evolutions, including fighting fires and stopping floods. It is also the final evolution that marks the recruit's final rite of passage into the Navy. Division 253 is the third Special Warfare Operations division to go through recruit training. The division is made up of rating candidates for special warfare operator, special warfare boat operator, Navy diver and explosive ordnance disposal (EOD). It is part of a new Navy and Special Warfare Command initiative to grow the ranks of SEALs, littoral and riverboat squadrons, dive units and EOD detachments.
