U.S. Marine Lance Cpl. Harrison Vartanian, a machine gunner with the 22nd Marine Expeditionary Unit, carries a M240B machine gun to the well deck of the Whidbey Island-class amphibious dock landing ship USS Fort McHenry (LSD-43). The Marines are preparing for upcoming training during Baltic Operations. BALTOPS is an annual joint, multinational maritime-focused exercised. It is designed to improve training for participants, enhance flexibility and interoperability, and demonstrate resolve among allied and partner forces in defending the Baltic Sea region.
