Sgt. Charles Shaffer, a soldier assigned to the Military Surface Deployment and Distribution Command Personal Property office at Scott AFB, departs work on his Segway, donated to him by Segs-4-vets program. Using his Segway, Shaffer said he can turn a 30-minute trip into 10 minutes. Now, instead of taking a half day off to go to the hospital or the dentist, I can get on my Segway and be there and back during my lunch hour," Shaffer said. According to the Segs-4-Vets website, the organization has awarded more than 700 Segways and was presented the Secretary of the Army’s Public Service Award for distinguished public service in providing outstanding support to American veterans.
