Sgt. Maj. Scot Cates (center) receives his Certificate of Retirement from Command Sgt. Maj. Jimmy Sellers, the commandant of the NCOL CoE (right) and Command Sgt. Maj. David Lee, the director of USASMA (left) for his time in service to the U.S. Army on June 7. Cates entered military service in 1990 as an infantryman. During his 29 years of military service he has held positions as team leader, instructor, drill sergeant, Special Reaction Team NCOIC, platoon sergeant, operations NCO, Officer Basic Course Small Group Leader, first sergeant, operations sergeant, installation program manager, brigade S3 Sergeant Major, Division Provost Marshal SGM, and USASMA Fellow and Vice-Chair of the Department of Professional Studies.
