Elizares became the Senior Limited Duty Officer (LDO) of the Navy in 2017 and served as an enlisted Sailor and then as LDO for a total of 42 years of service. The LDO category was established under the Officer Personnel Act of 1947 in support of retention of the critical skills and knowledge of chief warrant officers and enlisted Sailors as well as for fair competition for officers promoting from the ranks.
