Frank Berry, flight engineer of the B-29 Superfortress called "Doc," monitors his instrument panel during the aircraft's flight to Whiteman Air Force Base for the 2019 Wings over Whiteman Air & Space Show, June 14, 2019. During the last two months of 1944, B-29s began operating against Japan from the islands of Saipan, Guam and Tinian and were operated by the 509th Composite group. The unit later became the 509th Bomb Wing, which today operates the B-2 Spirit stealth bomber fleet at Whiteman AFB. Doc is one of only two remaining B-29s still fit to fly and is maintained by "Doc's Friends," a 501c3 nonprofit board managing the aircraft's operations. (U.S. Air Force photo by Tech. Sgt.
