Retired U.S. Army Col. Bruce Crandall (with Stetson), a Medal of Honor recipient, enjoys breakfast with soldiers from the Army’s 1st Cavalry Division during a recent tour of Afghanistan April 2. Crandall, 79, was awarded the Medal of Honor for his daring during the Vietnam War’s Battle of la Drang, where he flew an unarmed helicopter numerous times into intense enemy fire to evacuate wounded troops.
