Maj. Gen. John C. Harris, Ohio National Guard adjutant general, addresses service members, politicians, business leaders and local media at a groundbreaking ceremony July 10 at the 180th Fighter Wing headquarters, Toledo Air National Guard Base, in Swanton, Ohio. The area behind Harris will be a hangar, but the project also includes a deployment processing facility and a base fitness center. "This project has been a priority for the Ohio National Guard first and foremost because the National Guard will always be the entity primarily responsible for the security of our country," Harris said. "The 180th sits within 600 miles of 60 percent of the nation's population." The under nine-million dollar project will house up to four aircraft. The projected completion date is October 2020.
