Lt. Cmdr. Tres Meek holds onto the ceremonial ribbon as U.S. Rep. Joe Courtney, U.S. Sen. Richard Blumenthal, Capt. Marc Denno, commanding officer of Naval Submarine Base New London, Connecticut Gov. Dannel Malloy, Rear Adm. Richard Breckenridge, commander of Submarine Group (SUBGRU) 2, Connecticut Lt. Gov. Nancy Wyman, Ken Farrelly and Lt. Cmdr. Michael Goolsby cut a ribbon to officially open pier 31 at the bases. The $36 million pier is twice the width of many older piers and allows for loading and unloading of stores and weapons of two submarines berthed at the pier at the same time.
