U.S. Coast Guard Operations Specialist 1st Class Gary Smedley confirms satellite coordinates in response to a possible distress call off the coast of the Hawaiian island, Oahu, April 12, 2012, from the Fourteenth Coast Guard District Joint Rescue Coordination Center. The JRCC is responsible for coordinating rescue efforts for 14.2 million square miles of open ocean, atolls, and island nations.
