190709-N-DS741-1201 ARABIAN SEA (July 9, 2019) Sonar Technician (Surface) 2nd Class Alexander Lee, from Torrance, Calif., assigned to the weapons department aboard the Ticonderoga-class guided-missile cruiser USS Leyte Gulf (CG 55), ties a knot to secure a simulated person before being hoisted up to the ship during a search and rescue swimmer training session. Leyte Gulf is deployed to the U.S. 5th Fleet areas of operations in support of naval operations to ensure maritime stability and security in the Central Region, connecting the Mediterranean and Pacific through the Western Indian Ocean and three strategic choke points.
