190708-N-DS741-1001 ARABIAN SEA (July 8, 2019) Boatswain’s Mate 2nd Class Christopher Merrells, from Baton Rouge, La., a member of the deck division aboard the Ticonderoga-class guided-missile cruiser Leyte Gulf (CG 55), stands watch as the landing signalman enlisted during flight quarters with an MH-60R Sea Hawk helicopter assigned to the “Grandmasters” of Helicopter Maritime Strike Squadron 46. Leyte Gulf is deployed to the U.S. 5th Fleet areas of operations in support of naval operations to ensure maritime stability and security in the Central Region, connecting the Mediterranean and Pacific through the Western Indian Ocean and three strategic choke points.
