The littoral combat ship USS Independence (LCS 2) prepares to exit the Miraflores Lock during the ship’s first Panama Canal transit. The Miraflores is the last lock in the Panama Canal before the ship is lowered back to sea level on the Pacific Ocean side of the canal. Independence is underway for the ship's maiden voyage to San Diego.
