Hundreds of birds sit perched in a containment cell at Poplar Island in July 2016. The habitat being built at Poplar Island using dredged material from the approach channels to the Port of Baltimore has attracted hundreds of bird species and reptiles including osprey, eagles, terns and terrapins. The island’s location in the upper-middle Chesapeake Bay makes it an ideal location for mid-Atlantic migratory birds and other wildlife.
