Barges placed to help prevent the erosion of the last remaining remnants of Poplar Island are now bird habitat in the middle of a dredged material containment cell at Poplar Island. Through engineered crust management techniques, dredged material from the approach channels to the Port of Baltimore is used to create remote island habitat in the Chesapeake Bay.
