Staff Sgt. Jeremy Smith's parents, Jerry and Sandra Smith, and his wife, Rachel Smith, listen to Maj. Mark Wood, the commanding officer of Alpha Company, 1st Battalion, 23rd Marine Regiment, give a speech commemorating Smith at Ellington Field Joint Armed Forces Reserve Center, April 14. Smith was posthumously awarded the Bronze Star for heroic actions in combat in support of Operation Enduring Freedom in Afghanistan. Smith's parents and wife received the Bronze Star on his behalf.
