Heriberto Sangalang (center), 191st Military Police Battalion, teaches tactics and procedures used by Philippine Army Scout Rangers to U.S. service members during bilateral training at Balikatan 2012, April 19 at Clark Air Base, Philippines. The Philippines Army Scout Ranger program based its training regiment and its heritage back to the U.S. Sixth Army Special Reconnaissance Unit of World War II, known as the 'Alamo Scouts.' Balikatan is an annual training event aimed at improving combined planning, combat readiness, humanitarian assistance and interoperability between the Armed Forces of the Philippines and United States. The word balikatan in Filipino means "shoulder-to-shoulder."
