Volunteers cut down infested loblolly pine trees and burn debris at Lillydale Campground, Feb. 27, 2001. The trees were infested by the southern pine beetle and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Nashville District had no choice but to close the campground for the 2001 recreation season, remove the trees, and restore the campground with native hardwood trees in time to open for the 2002 recreation season.
